my all time favorite sessions

There are now over 50 canoe concerts videos online. while I had to ask musicians to join me for a concert in the beginning, I now have to choose who gets to play a concert. with more and more concerts the obvious question for someone coming to this site for the first time is: where should I start?
So here are my personal all time favorites. this is very personal and my choice not only reflects which song, performance or video I think is best, but it is much more about the memory of these sessions…

Game Over Baby, “Vorne du und hinten das” CC22

When the plan to do concerts on the canal first came to me, I immediately thought of Ferdinand, a friend of mine who plays in the band “Game Over Baby”. So we met and he just played the guitar while I tried different settings for recording the sound and video. Video quality was nice but the audio was horrible because of the wind noise. So I had to make a deadcat and a little wooden thingy to hang the microphone I bought second hand. Now everything was good. So we tried for four month to finally find a time to do the real concert with “Game Over Baby”. We finally did it just a week before Ferdinand’s bandmate gave birth to her first baby…
In this recording we were out on the Havel. It was pretty windy and the waves gave us a good shaky time…see for yourselves:

Conor Deasy from Biggles Flys again plays “City like a River” CC21

I met Conor on a gig by our friend Rhob and later had a look at some of his videos. We recorded four songs all of which are nice, but for a change I liked the look of “City like a River” and the songs fits the atmosphere and setting so nicely. It is always nice going up and down the canal, seeing people stop for a while or walk along to listen to the music performed in the canoe…join us and enjoy:

Bright Blue Gorillas play “The Worl is Mad” CC20

Some people play music, some people producer movies, other do both. In this last category falls the couple “bright Blue Gorillas. Robyn and Michael contacted me a while ago, if they could play in the canoe when visiting Berlin for the premiere of their most recent movie “Go with Le Flow”. I had a look at some of their work and was impressed with the variation. For the session they played a couple of songs, but this one just fitted perfectly to all the big crisis the world is facing right now. So enjoy, “The world is Mad”!:
