a tour with Rhob Cunningham (canoe concerts #7)
sometimes strange and wonderful things happen. last Saturday I was thinking about taking the canoe in the evening to find some musicians when I got an email from Rhob Cunningham, an Irish singer and guitar player, asking me if he could play. Recently moved to Berlin a flatmate of his had writen a note on one of my little pieces of paper with my contact on it. He said he’s always free, so I tested him by saying, what about tonight? The result was a wonderful evening full of music, another friend joining us for the trip and a full moon so incredible I don’t think I have seen a better one…
We started out at Thielenbrücke with a very recent song of Rhob’s, “Wait until the Sun grows cold” A beautiful piece of music and the urban surrounding added some nice special audio effects as you can see and hear in the video. We later recorded a number of other songs some of which are from Rhob’s upcoming Album ( I hope its soon! These songs are jewels!) These will be online at some point. We also already made a lot of plans for future concerts, make sure to save the date on 28th of June, when we will do an open session at Hobrechtbrücke from around six o’clock in the evening…more info will follow. For now, enjoy this:
#6: Ruth-Maria Adam plays violin under the Wildenbruchbrücke
The second concert I recorded was with Ruth-Maria Adam already more than a month ago. I waited a bit because similar to the first concert with Bastian Hagedorn it is a rather experimental piece and I wanted to have a couple more “traditional” pieces in between. I really like the dramatic impro of Ruth and am happy to now show it to all of you now….enjoy!
canoe concerts #5: peter bonev plays bagpipe…
in this session you see one of bulgaria’s best bagpipe players, peter bonev play under the hobrechtbrücke. I met him on kottbusser brücke and asked him to join me for a session. He was very happy with the sound under the bridge and as you can see, he really enjoyed playing.
canoe concerts #4: gustavo ketupec
on June 1st I went with the canoe to urbanhafen to ask musicians to play. I met gustavo who was really excited and so was I when hearing the sound he could make under the Baerwaldbrücke…
canoe concerts #3: julia marx & emilio gordoa
actually the first couple I picked up as total strangers were julia and emilio who were sitting right opposite to where I normally put my canoe on the water. Ever since recording this song it has stay put in my brain…
canoe concerts #2: milaim kas from belgium
on saturday I was out to pick up musicians for canoe concerts. for the first time I asked strangers to play and so they did….milaim was playing for his girlfriend on the side of the canal near thielenbrücke (the bridge that connects panier and ohlauer strasse). he played several pieces, one of which you can hear and see here…more might follow one day.
canoe concerts #1: bastian hagedorn
here is the edited video from the first canoe concerts session on the 16th of may:
